About this service
We support emotional wellbeing by providing a listening ear, encouraging you to share and offload, as well as help you to take part in local groups and activities. We also offer intervention to help mothers to recover from mental health issues, focused on mindfulness, self-care, and building resilience.
More Information
Feeling down, anxious or lonely during pregnancy and after childbirth is common. Help is at hand. Are you pregnant or have a child under two? Do you regularly feel overwhelmed, low in mood, or worried?
Who do we support?
We provide support for the critical first 1001 days of baby’s life; from conception, through pregnancy and up to baby’s 2nd birthday. Working across Bradford District (not including Craven), we accept referrals for any woman in her perinatal period who is experiencing, or is at risk of experiencing, any mild to moderate maternal mental health issues, low mood, feelings of social isolation, depression or anxiety.
How we support?
The core of the support offered by the service is peer support. A team of staff Perinatal Peer Supporters and Peer Support Volunteers provide regular listening support sessions, delivered one-to-one in the home. Women can choose to have their support via phone or video call.
The peer support team create a safe and non-judgmental space where women can open up, share and offload their thoughts and feelings, and experience ‘the power of feeling heard’.
The service also offers a short-term, low level recovery intervention, based on the Recovery Model, focusing on mothers taking the reins of their own recovery, identifying what helps them to feel better, and overcome challenges. Recovery Model Intervention focuses on mindfulness, self-care, building resilience, and readiness for change.
The service can take referrals from anyone working with women (midwives, health visitors, GPs, community workers, etc.) as well as self-referrals. Referrals can be made by email or by phone.
