Skills & employability

Family Action focusses on creating opportunity wherever we can, because we all deserve the chance to shape or reshape our futures for ourselves.

How we build skills & employability

Few of us now accept the myth that career success is solely about the effort you put in. For so many, especially young people without networks, and single parents without family around to offer support, there are often practical barriers that get in the way so that no matter how hard you try, the odds seem stacked against you.

That’s why Family Action focusses on creating opportunity wherever we can, because we all deserve the chance to shape or reshape our futures for ourselves.

Getting back into work after the birth of a child is not easy at the best of times. We’re so proud to be able to offer support in the form of grants that help parents return to college or apprenticeships, meaning they’re better able to support themselves and their young families. Whether it’s a laptop that helps make sure the assignments get finished, or the bus fare simply to get into college at all, the funds we manage are a small investment that makes an outsize difference in people’s lives.

At a different point in their careers are the young people who benefit from our HeadStart programme, a skills and employability programme dedicated to making sure that some of our most vulnerable and disadvantaged young people – those who don’t have access to an extensive network of family and family friends to open doors for them – are able to start their careers with confidence in themselves and their futures.

Support our work in skills & employability

There are many ways to support our work in skills & employability, whether you want to donate, volunteer, partner with us as an organisation or commission our services, you will be helping us to make a difference.

If anyone reading this wonders if LifeSkills is for them then don’t wait – please go there… You’ll be happier. I’m very glad to have met them and happy they understood me. Now I feel positive about the future.
