Health & wellbeing

Taking a holistic view to support people through mental health struggles via community groups, therapeutic support services and social prescribing.

What we do in health & wellbeing

At Family Action, we believe in taking a holistic view of health and wellbeing. We see first-hand how early experience shapes us, how the path in front of us connects back to our past. We understand how trauma can affect our physical health, and that safe, supportive relationships are vital to wellbeing.

Even when working with individuals, we look at the bigger picture of family and social networks to identify issues and needs, and how healthy relationships might be formed or act as a support.

Much of our work in communities addresses loneliness and social isolation. FOOD clubs do this and many of our parenting groups. Social prescribing services are explicitly designed to support people with issues that are affecting their health but often do not have a medical cause. This can take pressure off GPs and the wider health service, and help people regain confidence and make supportive connections in their local area.

For those with more complex social or mental health issues, we run a number of therapeutic services across England. From BAND in Bolton, a dedicated, mental health service for adults and model for co-production to trauma-informed counselling and therapy services for young people, adoptive families, birth parents and survivors of domestic violence. These might be short-term or long-term interventions, depending on the need.

Support our work in health & wellbeing

There are many ways to help ensure that no one has to struggle alone, whether you want to donate, volunteer, partner with us as an organisation or commission our services, you will be helping us to make a difference.

Having your support has changed mine and my son’s life, given me the courage to face my traumas and given me confidence in myself, people and the world around me.
