PAC-UK Child to Parent Violence Service
About this service
Child to Parent Violence (CPV) is a pattern of physical, psychological and emotional behaviour seen in children and young people who find it hard to regulate their feelings and sometimes have a great need to gain control over their parents or carers. It’s a serious issue for many families and one often misunderstood and overlooked.
Despite being a common experience, lots of adoptive parents find it hard to acknowledge or get the support they need but our Child to Parent Violence Service is here to help.

Group supportÂ
Our Child to Parent Violence (CPV) support groups provide a safe space to share and connect with others in a similar situation. They also help parents and carers learn Non Violent Resistance (NVR) strategies that can help manage out-of-control and violent behaviours including, how to de-escalate conflict, increase parental presence and how to make a stand. We work collaboratively and focus on solutions to situations giving parents and carers the skills needed to avoid responding to situations in a reactive way.Â
Weekly group sessions last 1.5 hours and are part of a 10 week programme that includes short presentations, sharing of experiences, discussion and roleplays. Groups are facilitated by our expert Child and Family Therapists and Parent Graduates who are adoptive parents or special guardians themselves and bring a wealth of lived experience and relevant knowledge. Â
After each session we’ll give you some helpful ‘homework’ tasks to reinforce some of the learning from the groups and for you to apply to real life situations. After 10 sessions further support may be available through follow up groups.Â

One-to-one support Â
As well as group sessions, we can provide intensive one-to-one support to parents and carers experiencing Child to Parent Violence. Like our group sessions, these are aimed at helping you manage out of control or violent behaviour through Non Violence Resistance strategies. Sessions can be tailored to individuals and are facilitated by a qualified therapist or an accredited Non Violence Resistance practitioner in either a clinical setting or your family home.Â
