Community Engagement Volunteer

Time Commitment

12 months, 3 hours per week

Role Based Details

Role will be based at Woodfield Park Community Centre, PE1 4XE

Who does this role help?

Families, Parents

By promoting our work, raising awareness, and distributing information about our service, volunteers in this role will ensure that we reach can reach and support more people in our communities.

Who you will be helping

Our volunteers work with us to help us reach more individuals and families, and ensure that our limited resources are used to support those with the greatest need.

The difference you will make

Our volunteers help us get the word out about our service. Often those who would most benefit from our work are those who are least likely to hear about it. They may be people who are very isolated and don’t know that there is help available, or it may be that they are simply too busy dealing with the pressures of everyday life to look for support.

By working with us to increase the visibility of our services and help us engage with people in need of support, you will help more people access our service and get the support they need.

Typical tasks within this role:

  • Raising awareness of the project by distributing marketing materials or posting on social media
  • Promoting upcoming events and initiatives within the local community
  • Actively encouraging participation and co-production within the community
  • Reaching out to local businesses and organisations for support
  • Helping to run events
  • Helping to recruit more volunteers

Who are we looking for?

Volunteers in this role are usually people who already have connections in the communities we want to reach, and have an understanding of the challenges people face as well as insight into how a service like ours could make a positive difference to their lives.

We welcome applications from volunteers from all walks of life, with a variety of life experiences, including men and women from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic and LBGTQIA+ communities.

This role would suit people who:

  • Have experience of, or an interest in community work
  • Are passionate about improving outcomes for local people
  • Can demonstrate commitment, reliability and consistency
  • Are good communicators and relationship builders
  • Can speak another community language (helpful but not essential)

What’s in it for you?

Family Action volunteers tell us that volunteering with us can be challenging at times, but it’s also very rewarding. Many volunteers also report that volunteering has helped them:

  • Develop more confidence
  • Build skills for work
  • Improve their computer skills
  • Make connections in their communities
  • Get used to working in an office environment
  • Learn more about working in Social Care
  • Feel like they are making a positive difference.

All Family Action volunteers receive full training and access to ongoing supervision and support for as long as they are in the role.
