Time Commitment

12 months, 3 hours per week

Who does this role help?

Adults

Wellbeing and Activity Group volunteers support or facilitate groups that give members the opportunity to share common interests and connect with like-minded people. This promotes positive emotional and mental wellbeing for individuals, families and communities.

Who you will be helping

​Membership varies across different groups, but you will be supporting local people to build confidence and connect with others in the community. You can find out more about the options when you chat to a member of staff after submitting the “I’m interested” form.

Family Action believes that good emotional health and wellbeing is not only about feeling confident and happy, it is also about being positively engaged with the world and having a strong sense of self-esteem. 

Wellbeing and Activity Group Volunteers bring people together to work collectively, and see the positive impact of this – relationships being formed, confidence increasing, and challenges being overcome. 

There is significant evidence that positive wellbeing contributes to good physical health. Good emotional health increases our capacity to manage, communicate, and form and sustain relationships. It also gives builds resilience, equipping us to cope better when we face challenges in life. 

Who are we looking for?

​There is no typical Family Action volunteer. We want our volunteers to be as diverse as the people we support. We need volunteers with a range of life experiences, skills and knowledge. This role particularly suits people who:

  • Believe in the idea of community and the power of teamwork to improve everyone’s situation
  • Are friendly and approachable
  • Are confident in group settings
  • Can work well as part of a team
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality. 
  • Can communicate well with a diverse range of people
  • Are enthusiastic, committed, trustworthy and reliable
  • Are supportive and non-judgmental.

All Family Action volunteers receive full training and access to ongoing supervision and support as long as they are in the role.
