Based at one of our Children's Centres in Wythenshawe

Who does this role help?

Parents, Babies (0-2yrs), Pre-schoolers (3-5yrs)

We are looking for volunteers to support the delivery of a creche facility, for children 0-5 whose parent/carer have no childcare arrangements, so they can attend activities taking place at the centre. Creches are short sessional care and will provide a safe play space for a small group of children. The work may involve organising age appropriate play activities, feeding, changing nappies and talking to parents.

Who you will be helping

You will provide parents/carers with the essential support they require to participate in activities taking place at the centre to enhance their skills and support their mental health and wellbeing without childcare being a barrier. 

The difference you will make

You will be helping young children to build confidence, extend their speech and vocabulary, and learn new skills through play. You will provide reassurance to parents/carers that their children are in safe hands as they attend their community activities, learn new skills, make friends and have fun. 

Typical tasks within this role:

  • Support the Creche Leader to set up and deliver creches.
  • Support with offering an interactive and varied programme of activities for babies and pre-school children attending the creche.
  • Maintain a safe environment for pre-school age children and babies.
  • Build positive relationships with parents and their children.

Who are we looking for?

There is no typical Family Action volunteer. We want our volunteers to be as diverse as the people we support. We need volunteers with a range of life experiences, skills and knowledge. In return for giving your time and talents, you will receive quality training, ongoing support, and the reward of knowing that you are making a real difference. This role will particularly suit volunteers who:

  • Have experience in an early years setting. 
  • Can encourage, plan and supervise children to engage in activities like arts and crafts, music, singing and storytelling. 
  • Have a good standard of spoken English. 
  • Can keep indoor and outdoor work areas clean and safe.
  • Understand the need to keep children safe and will adhere to our safeguarding policies.
  • Can be flexible. 
  • Can support the lead creche worker with the delivery of the creche.
