A conversation with birth parents about their lived experiences of adoption and how they are represented within the adoption system.

Hosted by Angela Frazer Wicks MBE, the event will give birth parents an opportunity to share their perspectives on how they are described and represented in court proceedings, social work records and adoption files, and to explore the difference between these representations and their own experiences and identities.

The discussion will explore a range of issues, including:

• How birth parents are represented in court, social work records and adoption files
• Who birth parents are beyond the labels and descriptions placed on them
• Experiences of life story work and maintaining a sense of identity
• The experiences of birth parents with disabilities
• Letterbox contact and relationships with children following adoption
• What could be done differently to better understand and represent birth parents’ experiences
