1 in 4 parents* are struggling to afford food for their families

They say it takes a village to raise a child, but too many families are facing hard times without that support. When money is tight, food is often the first worry.

Across the country, families are doing everything they can to make ends meet – stretching budgets, skipping meals and living with constant stress.

Family Action’s FOOD Clubs provide affordable, healthy food in warm, welcoming local safe spaces, without judgement.

By supporting us monthly, you can help keep FOOD Clubs open, so families can rely on support they can trust. Your regular gift helps food go further, worries ease, and families to feel less alone – thank you!

I was looking for the cheapest thing to buy so we were mostly just eating beans on toast over and over again

I felt low and stressed and didn’t know how I was getting by day to day.

Understanding the research

We know that families are struggling, we see that through our services every day, but we also look at the latest research and statistics on poverty to understand the bigger picture, as well as conducting our own research to inform where support is needed most.

The above stats are taken from Family Action polling data* and Joseph Rowntree Foundation, UK Poverty 2026 Report**

Our Family Action polling was carried out by Censuswide, among a sample of 2,083 UK parents/carers of children under the age of 18. Censuswide abides by and employs members of the Market Research Society and follows the MRS code of conduct and ESOMAR principles. Censuswide is also a member of the British Polling Council.

We see it for ourselves but we also see it in the data and so we know your support will make a huge difference to families who would otherwise struggle to overcome the challenges they face.
